Project: Primark - Magna Park

THE SCOPE OF WORKS

September 2016 Primark moved from their massive warehouse’s in Magna Park, Lutterworth, a busy distribution Estate.

Primark leased 2 warehouses, Oliver and Dante linked together with a Link Structure. They vacated both buildings leaving the Conveyor system servicing both buildings which included 2 Mezzanine floors measuring over 380,000 square meters.

Our Scope of Works included the dismantling of the former mezzanine and the dismantling of the entire conveyor system. We then demolished the Link Structure joining the 2 warehouses.

PRE-ENABLING WORKS

The site called for extensive, specialist machinery to complete the project. Prior to the machinery attacking the Mezzanine and Conveyor System, pre-dismantling of the racking system was done by hand to protect from flying debris.

Existing services needed to be rerouted including Gas, Electricity and the complex Sprinkler Systems to enable the works to progress.

We were appointed as by our Client, PD Industrial Ltd to undertake the process, we need to ensure that no damage was caused to the Concrete floor below, this was achieved by completely boarding the working area.

DEMOLITION / DISMANTLING PROCESS

Using one of our Volvo EC380E’s fitted with a Rotar RSS 30 shear the steel frame and conveyour system was systematically dismantled, cutting each section into manageable sections and passing it to a second VolvoEC300E machine c/w Rotar RSG 30 rotational grab for stockpiling.

The whole floor area was protected to prevent any damage to the surface. We sheared the framework and loaded awaiting Bulk Trailers to take to a recycling yard.

The structure and conveyour system was dismantled within the agreed time scale with no damage to the floor.

THE END RESULT

The demolition / dismantling  produced over 850 tons of recylable material, we burned over 61,000 ltrs of fuel to complete the works. We worked quite closely with other trades within the warehouse and maintained the integrity of our working area throughout the works.

The link between the structures was demolished and the footings and foundations removed, the area was then brought back to landscaping and the cladding replaced to match existing.

Our team of Site Management undertook the works, causing little disturbance to the other operations of the site. We received excellent feedback from the client, Principle Designer and Segro’s Site Team who owned the site.

"The Resources and Machinery made available on this project by Collins Demolition is a credit to them. A very successful project for both companies! " - Darren Hardiman – Director, PD Industrial Ltd.
